Winner of The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (Jan. 5 to 10)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week for contests played between Jan. 5-10. Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winner is:

MakHai Pleasant-Tolliver, Silas boys basketball

The senior guard scored a team-high 17 points, including a pair of game-winning free throws with one second left in the game in 69-68 win over crosstown rival Lincoln on Tuesday.

Mya Armstrong, River Ridge girls basketball — Scored 17 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, with two rebounds, an assist and four steals in win over Capital on Tuesday.

Kawehi Borden, Sumner girls basketball — Scored a team-high 19 points in 72-54 win over Bonney Lake on Thursday. Added seven rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Payton Brown, Muckleshoot Tribal boys basketball — Junior guard dropped 30 points with five steals in Wednesday’s 85-48 win over Crosspoint Christian, then posted a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double in Thursday’s 56-50 loss to Auburn Adventist.

Doni Burkett, Todd Beamer boys basketball — Senior guard had 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists in Monday’s 65-54 loss to Enumclaw.

Trey Collier, Silas boys basketball — Scored 15 points in 69-68 win over crosstown rival Lincoln on Tuesday.

Sierra Cordis, North Thurston girls basketball — Posted a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals in 59-45 win over Lakes on Tuesday.

Malachi Doss, Silas boys basketball — Scored 12 points and knocked down three first-half 3-pointers in 69-68 win over crosstown rival Lincoln on Tuesday.

Mason Emil, Mount Rainier boys basketball — Junior wing posted career-highs in points (36) and rebounds (16) in the same week with an 18-point, 16-rebound double-double in Tuesday’s win over Stadium and 36-point, 15-rebound double-double in Friday’s win over Kennedy Catholic.

Logan Girias, Enumclaw girls basketball — Scored 27 points, shooting 11-of-17 from the field in win over Todd Beamer on Monday. Added three rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

Max Greene, Evergreen Lutheran boys basketball — Eagles junior dropped 30 points with five rebounds and four assists in Saturday’s 81-33 win over Summit Atlas.

Raymiah Jackson, Sumner girls basketball — Posted a double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds in win over Graham-Kapowsin on Tuesday.

Daniel Johnson, Auburn boys basketball — Senior guard joined the 1,000-point career scoring club with 29 points in Tuesday’s 68-63 win over Tahoma, adding 27 points in Thursday’s 91-44 win over Auburn Riverside.

Hudson Lindsay, Concordia Christian boys basketball — Senior guard posted a 22-point, 10-assist double-double with five steals in Monday’s 75-71 win over Quilcene, then had a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double with seven assists and four steals in Wednesday’s 66-41 win over Northwest Christian.

Nikol Miranda, Todd Beamer girls basketball — Scored 29 points in win over Lynnwood on Saturday.

Giovanni Moimoi, Kentridge boys basketball — Senior forward dropped a season-high 31 points on 15-of-18 shooting (83%) in Tuesday’s 76-40 win over Auburn Riverside, then posted a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double in Thursday’s 68-65 win over Kentwood.

Quinton Morrill, Black Hills boys basketball — Senior guard had 22 points and two rebounds in Friday’s 62-55 win over W.F. West, adding 11 points and two rebounds in Tuesday’s 51-50 win over Shelton.

Mia Nielsen, Capital girls basketball — Scored 23 points in loss to River Ridge, 30 points in loss to Timberline and 19 points in loss to Shelton.

Annique Smith, Silas girls basketball — Senior wing dropped 27 points with seven rebounds, five assists, five steals, and two blocks in Tuesday’s 58-40 win over city-rival Lincoln.

Brandi Stanford, River Ridge girls basketball — Senior guard had 17 points, six assists and five steals in Tuesday’s win over Capital, adding 19 points and five assists in Thursday’s loss to North Thurston.

Zion Stone, Kennedy Catholic boys basketball — Junior guard scored 28 points with two assists and three steals in Friday’s 83-76 loss to Mount Rainier.

Ijohn Taylor, Clover Park boys basketball — Senior guard dropped a season-high 27 points (12-19 FG) with seven steals, four rebounds, and four assists in Wednesday’s 75-54 win over Kingston.

Olivia Tiggs, Silas girls basketball — Junior forward posted an 11-point, 14-rebound double-double with five steals in Tuesday’s 58-40 win over city-rival Lincoln.

Tyler Venable, Black Hills girls basketball — Scored 29 points in loss to Rainier, 34 points in loss to Shelton and 24 points in loss to W.F. West.

Kasey Williams, Lincoln boys basketball — Abes senior posted a 28-point, 12-rebound double-double with three steals and three blocks in Thursday’s 82-53 win over Central Kitsap.
