The News Tribune’s 2026 All-Area boys basketball team
Each year, with input from local coaches, The News Tribune selects its All-Area boys basketball team.
This year, 10 high schools from the South Sound are represented by players and coaches selected to the first and second teams.
The 12 spots, broken down by leagues, are 3A Puget Sound League (five), 4A North Puget Sound League (two), 4A South Puget Sound League (two), 3A North Puget Sound League (two), and 2A South Puget Sound League (one).
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
DAVION SHAREEF-DULANEY
Lincoln
Guard, 6-3, soph.
The late-game heroics in the 3A state semifinal win over Eastside Catholic might have turned Shareef-Dulaney into a household name around Washington, the peak of a star sophomore season. Shareef-Dulaney, who passed 1,000 career points in his first two high school seasons during this year’s district tournament, led the Abes to a 20-7 record, an upset win over No. 2 O’Dea in the regional round and to Lincoln’s first state championship game since 2002. 3A PSL Narrows first-team selection averaged 22.5 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
COACH OF THE YEAR
RYAN ROGERS
Lincoln
Coached the Abes to a 20-7 record, the 3A District 3/4 title, a win over No. 2 O’Dea in the regional round and all the way to the 3A state championship game at the Tacoma Dome, collecting wins over Bellevue in the quarterfinal and Eastside Catholic in the semifinal. It marked the first appearance in a 3A or 4A boys state championship game by a Tacoma school since Lincoln won the title in 2002.

DANIEL JOHNSON
Auburn
Guard, 6-3, sr.
4A NPSL co-MVP was the creator and engine of Auburn’s offense, averaging 20.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals for the Trojans, leading Auburn to the 4A state tournament at the Tacoma Dome. Montana State commit.
MICHAEL MASINI
Gig Harbor
Forward, 6-8, sr.
The South Sound’s double-double machine was the focal point of every opponent’s defensive gameplan this season and still didn’t slow down, averaging 25.5 points and 12.1 rebounds for the Tides. West Point (Army) commit leaves the program with 18 school records to his name, including single-season points (620), career points (1,533), single-game rebounds (23), single-season rebounds (345) and career rebounds (863).
JAMAIZE MCGRIFF
Emerald Ridge
Forward, 6-foot-7, sr.
4A SPSL North first-team selection and the league’s co-defensive MVP was a force to be reckoned with on both ends of the floor this winter. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 14 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, two steals and 1.8 blocks and led the Jaguars to the 4A state tournament semifinals — which included a win over No. 1 Mount Si in the quarterfinals — at the Tacoma Dome earlier this month. It was the program’s best postseason finish.
WILL NASINEC
Puyallup
Forward, 6-7, sr.
The 4A SPSL North MVP put together his most dominant high school season in his senior year, averaging 18 points and seven rebounds. A gifted scorer inside and out, Nasinec led the Vikings to the 4A District 3/4 title and the 4A state tournament quarterfinals at the Tacoma Dome. Finished No. 2 all-time in career scoring at Puyallup with 1,424 points, behind former multi-sport standout Damon Huard. His 625 career rebounds put him third in Puyallup’s record books.
KOLVEN POSEY
Auburn Mountainview
Guard, 5-8, sr.
When this smooth-shooting guard got hot, he couldn’t be denied. Crafty scorer, 3A NPSL first-team selection led Auburn Mountainview to the 3A District 3/4 championship game and a 3A state tournament appearance at the Tacoma Dome. Averaged 21.4 points, 3.2 assists, 2.6 steals and 2.5 rebounds.
