Vote now for The News Tribune’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week for contests played between April 13-18. Voting will remain open until noon Thursday.

The poll is located below. You can read about all of the candidates and their accomplishments below.

Nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. Sunday.

Avery Anderson, Emerald Ridge boys — Freshman ran 15.02 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles and 40.4 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles at the Vikings Classic at Lake Stevens High School on Saturday. The 15.02 is No. 7 all-time for a freshman in the state’s history.

JoMierre Askew-Poirier, Lincoln boys — Senior set a personal record in the 100-meter dash (10.68 seconds) at Bellarmine Prep on Thursday, ranking third in the event statewide this spring. Askew-Poirier won the 100-meter (10.76) and 200-meter dash (21.87) events at Saturday’s Mount Tahoma Track Festival.

Rizon Calloway, North Thurston boys — At the Activator Invite in Chehalis, took fifth in the 100 meters with a personal record 11.77 seconds. Also had a personal record 23.82 seconds in the 200 meters and helped his teams to a second-place finish in the 2x100 relay and a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Izear Ferguson, Sumner boys — Senior set a personal record in the 100-meter dash (10.74 seconds) in a dual meet with Curtis on Wednesday. The mark ranks fifth statewide.

Amin Fidaar, Rogers boys — Broke school records in the 800 and 3,200 meters, clocking in at 1 minute, 51.56 seconds and 9:21.08, respectively. His 800-meter time is the top mark in the 4A classification in the state, currently. He also has the second-fastest 1,600-meter time in 4A (4:11.79).

Elijah Harvey, Rogers boys — Won both hurdle events at the Viking Classic at Lake Stevens High School. His 110-high time of 14.42 seconds is fifth in the state in the 4A classification, while his 300 hurdles time of 39.27 seconds is third in 4A. He was also on the winning 4x100 team and took third place on the 4x400 team, which is ranked seventh in 4A.

Ava Haugen-Fengler, Bellarmine Prep girls — Sophomore won the 400-meter run with a personal best (1:00.22) at Dave Snyder’s Lil’ Norway Invitational at North Kitsap High School on Saturday.

Bowen Kaeo, Bethel boys — Junior went sub-15 for the first time in the 110-meter hurdles, setting a personal best (14.90 seconds) at Puyallup High School on Wednesday.

Elvis Kariuki, Clover Park boys — Senior won the 100-meter dash (11.15 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.47) events at Dave Snyder’s Lil’ Norway Invitational at North Kitsap High School on Saturday.

Blake Kirkpatrick, Tumwater boys — Senior notched season-bests to finish second in the 100-meter dash (10.86 seconds) and third in the 200-meter dash (21.98) at the Pasco Invite on Saturday.

Naomi Martin, Bellarmine Prep girls — Junior set a school record in the high jump with a mark of 5’5” to lead the Lions to a win over the Lincoln Abes, 80-39.

Suri Sardinia, Peninsula girls — Currently ranked No. 1 in 3A in discus and No. 4 overall in all classifications, Sardinia won the Lil Norway Invite over the weekend, setting a school record in the discus with a throw of 142 feet, 5 inches. She also won the shot put event with a throw of 37 feet, 11.25 inches.

Josiah Tucker, North Thurston boys — At the Activator Invite in Chehalis, took first in the 200 meters with a personal record 23.02 seconds, first in the 400 meters with a personal record 51.02 seconds and helped his team to a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
