State Track & Field, Day 2: Silas’ Hinton claims 3A 100M Hurdles title

The gold medal Savannah Hinton claimed at Mount Tahoma two years ago now has company.

Silas’ standout junior captured her second-career title Friday at the WIAA State Track & Field championships, cruising to victory in the 3A Girls 100M Hurdles (14.55 seconds) at Mount Tahoma High School.

Hinton crossed the finish line and let out an audible “Yes!” before high-fiving competitors, clearing the final hurdle and dashing home without a true challenge. It marked her first state title since 2024, when Hinton claimed the 3A Girls 300M Hurdles title as an up-and-coming freshman on a third-place Silas squad.

“I was screaming in my head,” Hinton told The News Tribune. “I was just like, ‘I finally did it.’ The work paid off.”

Mercer Island’s Eloise Newman (14.97) finished runner-up and Mountlake Terrace’s Brynlee Dubiel (15.07) secured a third-place finish on Friday. Gig Harbor junior Eisley Hering (15.22) finished fourth.

Hinton’s 14.55 mark was the fastest 100M Hurdles time across all classifications (2A-4A).

Her strategy? “Getting your leg down fast,” she said.

“And not hitting a hurdle,” she smiled. “That’s always a hard thing (to do).”

Curtis senior Frankie Skipper finished runner-up (14.76 seconds) in the Class 4A Girls 100M Hurdles final, one-tenth of a second behind Union champion Leilani Mays.
