Prep roundup: Washington edges Fife for 2A SPSL boys tennis victory
Coming down to the last match of the day, the Washington High School boys tennis team defended home court against Fife in a 3-2 victory on Monday.
Khoa Nguyen and Caleb Whitemarsh cruised in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively.
That handed Fife (1-1; 1-1 2A SPSL) its first loss while the Patriots (2-0; 2-0) remain unbeaten.
Capital 4, Tumwater 2: Ty Gentry cruised against his former school.
Only it got the best of his new school in the end.
The reigning 2A state champion for the Thunderbirds dominated for a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 singles match against Capital’s Andre Campeau. But Capital swept the doubles matches on its way to the victory.
Gentry reached the 2A state title match while with Capital in 2013 before winning the 2A title with Tumwater last year.
Capital’s Spencer Rex defeated Carl Meyers, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles match, which proved to be the match point as Capital took all three doubles matches.
Franklin Pierce 3, White River 2: Despite Kaden Phillips and Frank Inglin winning the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches for the Hornets, the Cardinals' doubles teams swept all three matches to complete the comeback.
GIRLS GOLF
Kentridge High School's girls golf team narrowly defeated Kentwood 70-69 at Meridian Valley Golf Course on Monday.
Katelann Soth for the Chargers earned the medalist honors, shooting a 1-over-par 37.
BOYS SOCCER
The Tacoma Baptist boys soccer team rallied behind a Riley Byrne hat trick to earn a 7-0 road victory against 2B Pacific foe Life Christian Academy on Monday.
The Crusaders also got goals from Ryan Ratliff, Seth Talen, Daw Von Barnau Synphof and Austin Miller.
"[Tacoma Baptist] was real balanced and exciting to watch play," said Life Christian head coach Garrett Lordahl. "[I'm] looking forward to playing them again."
Tacoma Baptist’s PJ Talen earned the shutout.
BOYS WATER POLO
Michael Marr was responsible for nearly half of the goals Stadium High School's boys water polo team scored against Peninsula in a 17-5 home victory on Monday.
Marr scored 8 of the Tiger's goals, while Jack Maloy, Canner Bunch and Kyle Fulsom each scored twice.
Jacob Haffer and Chase Michael scored two goals each for the Seahawks.
