Prep cross country: Andrew Wilson leads Wilson boys; Sophia Baye the girls
Andrew Wilson finished in 11 minutes, 55 seconds and led the Wilson High School boys cross country team to a victory over visiting Foss in a 3A Narrows League meet Wednesday with 26 points to Foss’ 30.
Foss senior Chase Galvin finished second in the 2.1-mile course in 12:54.
Wilson next competes Saturday in the Fort Steilacoom Invitational at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood.
Curtis 20, Bethel 41: Ben Jacot finished first with a time of 17:55 in the 5,000-meter course for the Vikings.
Curtis runners took four of the top five spots, with David Howard taking third, Dennis Keith fourth and Matthew Shafer fifth.
Bethel’s Brian Shaffer finished second in 18:34.05.
Curtis next heads to the 35th annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Friday at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. Bethel will compete in Saturday’s Fort Steilacoom Invitational in Lakewood.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Wilson High School girls cross country team followed Sophia Baye’s lead in earning the victory in a 3A Narrows meet at home against Foss and Lincoln on Wednesday.
Baye finished in first place with a time of 14 minutes, 19 seconds. Foss’ Kathryn Stone took second in 14:46 and Lincoln’s Jackline Knight was third in 14:56.
Curtis 20, Bethel 41: Sarah Henry took first place in the 5,000-meter course with a time of 21:53.01 for the Braves, but the Vikings had runners take up the next six places in Curtis’ victory.
Bethel’s Henry was followed by Curtis sophomore Kenzie Richards in second place with a time of 22:23.77.
Curtis’ Annaliese Wegner took third, Rees Jacot fourth, Emily Barret fifth, Natalie Smith sixth and Claire Litsky seventh.
