Prep volleyball: Elly McEachern’s big night sparks Curtis past G-K in battle of unbeatens

It took all five sets to decide the Curtis High School volleyball team’s match against Graham-Kapowsin.

But thanks to Elly McEachern’s dominant performance, the Vikings rallied from a one-set deficit to win 18-25, 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 15-10 and hand the Eagles their first loss on Wednesday.

McEachern had a season-high 31 kills and 22 digs as Curtis (5-1, 5-0 4A SPSL South) remains unbeaten in league play. Camryn Buell added 14 kills and 25 digs while Haley Morton had 46 assists.

Carpenter finished the night with 23 kills, 15 digs two blocks and three aces for Graham-Kapowsin (5-1, 3-1).

Emerald Ridge 3, Spanaway Lake 0: The Jaguars (4-1; 3-1 4A SPSL South) cruised to the 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 victory behind Makenna Sith’s 12 kills and five aces and Jadyn Mullen’s 28 assists.

Malani Acido-Pastor had 10 digs for Spanaway Lake (0-6; 0-5).

Olympia 3, Gig Harbor 0: Lauren Wilson had nine kills and Julie Fleener added 21 assists and four aces as the Bears won three closely-contested sets, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21.

Lauren Hatfield had 11 kills for Gig Harbor and Jackie Payne added 32 digs.

Timberline 3, South Kitsap 0:　 Natalie Stark came away with 32 assists, two aces and nine digs in the Blazers' victory over the Wolves.

Franklin Pierce 3, Steilacoom 1:　Lauren Baker and Malia Fakatoufifita helped keep the Cardinals unbeaten with a narrow v26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-21 victory over the Sentinels.

Baker had 13 kills and 13 assists and Fakatoufifita had 29 digs and Franklin Pierce (5-0; 4-0 2A SPSL) turned a 1-1 tie after two sets into the 3-1 victory.

Despite the loss, Steilacoom’s Nadia Albert had 40 digs, Mahea Ling-Oleole had 26 assists, 14 digs, four blocks, two kills and three aces and Kendall Fox had 22 digs, 10 kills a block and an ace. Sophia Spoja added 14 digs, 11 kills three blocks and two aces for the Sentinels (3-2; 2-2)

White River 3, Clover Park 0: The Hornets cruised to the 25-12, 25-10, 25-11 victory behind Kelsey Williams’ 14 digs, six aces and Taylor Keating’s 11 digs and eight kills.

Emily Kunst added 12 kills and Mahealini Stone added 21 assists for White River (5-0; 4-0 2A SPSL).

Orting 3, River Ridge 0:　 Tatum Tripp was too much for the Hawks as she led the Cardinals (2-2; 2-2 2A SPSL) with two aces, six digs and eight assists in the 25-8, 25-21, 25-11 victory.

Fife 3, Washington 0: Annika Linden had 35 assists and Arielle Barber 12 kills, three blocks and six digs as the Trojans (3-3; 2-2 2A SPSL) soared to the 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 victory over the Patriots (1-3; 1-3).
