Prep football: Kentwood rolls to 62-24 win over Kentridge; Central Kitsap’s late TD downs North Thurston
Chavez Kalua-Fuimaono ran for two touchdowns and Jawann Gault made things exciting in the first quarter by taking a kick return 84 yards for a touchdown as the Kentwood High School football team cruised to the 62-24 victory against Kentridge on Thursday.
Kentwood (3-1; 1-0 4A SPSL Northeast) had a big second quarter, scoring 20 unanswered points after the Conquerors led 14-10 after the first quarter.
Quarterback Brian Campbell threw three touchdowns passes for Kentwood and ran for two more.
Kentridge scored first on Sabian Tsang’s 27-yard field goal and after Kalua-Fuimaono’s first TD run, James Billotti caught a 38-yard pass from Max Arend for a 10-7 lead before Kentwood scored four unanswered touchdowns, kick-started by Gault’s kick return.
Central Kitsap: 23, North Thurston: 22: Kendal Yaegle caught the game winning 23-yard pass from Tyler Tubbs with less than 2 minutes left in the game as the Cougars won their second consecutive 3A Narrows game to start the season.
Isaiah McGee, running back for the Cougars, also rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown off of 24 carries. Yeagle also had a third-quarter touchdown run.
It was an exciting end to a close game and a tough break for Rams, who did something similar to Wilson in last week’s 14-13 win with a scoring drive with about a minute to play.
Tahoma 50, Decatur: 10: Amandre Williams threw four touchdown passes for the Bears.
Tahoma's defense played stout throughout the game, only allowing scoring drives in the second quarter. The Bears led 40-10 at halftime.
Tahoma (4-0) has scored at least 40 points in three of their first four games, with Federal Way being the only school to hold them to under 40 (18 points) last week.
