Prep volleyball: Elly McEachern’s 22 kills lifts Curtis past Puyallup, 3-0

The Curtis High School volleyball team did not allow more than 16 points in a set during on its way to a 25-16, 25-15, 25-8 win over Puyallup on Monday.

Elly McEachern lead the way for Curtis with 22 kills, and 3 blocks, Haley Morton also had 27 assists. 

Curtis (6-1. 6-0 4A SPSL South) has put on a show since its opening match of the season against reigning 2A champ Tumwater. The Vikings have gone 6-0 in conference play for the top spot so far in the 4A SPSL South.

Their next challenge will be an away match against Timberline (3-2, 3-1 4A Narrows).

Anna Saelens had 11 digs for Puyallup (3-4; 2-3).

Rogers 3, Graham-Kapowsin 2: The Rams took the first two sets, lost the next two but regrouped to take the final set in a 25-19, 26-24, 17-25, 19-25, 15-10 victory over the Eagles.

Hannah Burkart led the way for Rogers (3-3; 3-2 4A SPSL South) with 18 kills and three blocks. Lexie Brown added 12 kills and 20 digs and Maddy Clark had 26 assists.

Graham-Kapowsin (5-2; 3-2) got 22 kills, 12 digs and three blocks from Ayla Carpenter and Jordan Keane had 49 assists and five digs.

Tahoma 3, Kentridge 0: A balanced attack led the Bears to a 25-16, 25-13, 25-18 victory over Kentridge on Monday.

Hannah McPhetridge had eight kills and Paige Anthony, Ginny Mehl and Sierra Stultz added six kills each for Tahoma (4-2; 2-0 4A SPSL North). Cydnee Miller recorded 26 assists.

Emily Gooding and Alaina Rhee each had five kills for Kentridge (3-4; 0-2).

Todd Beamer 3, Jefferson 0: Renee Tiumalu had nine kills and three aces and Camryn Skari added eight kills and five digs as the Titans beat the Raiders, 25-14, 25-23, 25-17.

Capital 3, Lincoln 1: After Lincoln the first set, 25-21, the Cougars rallied back and won three straight, scoring 25-23, 25-19 and 27-25 to improve to 2-2 for the season. 

Hali Ehresnann led Capital with 13 kills, 21 digs, six blocks and three aces. Gabbie Weiks also had 18 assists and 10 digs for the Cougars.

Capital faces 3A Narrows foe Shelton at home next match at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Enumclaw 3, Sumner 0: Barbie Becker’s 22 kills and Victoria Hernandez’s 20 digs helped the Hornets (4-1; 4-1 3A SPSL) cruise past the Spartans, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.

Heather Thompson led Sumner (3-3; 3-2) with 11 kills and 16 digs and Georgia Hinds had 29 assists and two blocks. Kiandra Franklin had 14 digs and six kills.

"Our girls looked tough tonight, never giving up and staying focused on our game plan," Enumclaw coach Jackie Carel said. "Another amazing outing for Barbie Becker with the support of her teammates."

Auburn Riverside 3, Lakes 0: Kiana Drumheller and Kasey Holand each had 13 kills and Lauren Smith had 34 assists at the Ravens cruised to the 25-15, 25-16, 25-10 victory.

Drumheller also had nine digs for the Ravens (5-0; 5-0 3A SPSL).

Lakes was led by Brianna Bell, who had five kills and Christina Coero Borga who had seven digs.

Cascade Christian 3, Bellevue Christian 0:  Hannah Carlisle had 31 assists in the Cougars’ win. She helped set up team kill leader Dani Tang, who had 10 kills.
