Prep tennis: Connor Williams, Puyallup edge Graham-Kapowsin; Jefferson follows 63-match win streak with losing skid

In a back and forth match, the Puyallup High School boys tennis team pulled out the 3-2 victory against Graham-Kapowsin on Tuesday to keep its top spot in the 4A SPSL South standings.

Puyallup’s Connor Williams had the toughest match of the day in No. 2 singles. He lost the first set 6-7 (12) before storming back to take the next two sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Graham-Kapowsin’s Michael Hagerty won the top singles match, 6-2, 6-4, over Puyallup’s Andrew Flury.

Puyallup (7-3, 6-0 4A SPSL South) currently has  a two game lead in the SPSL South, with a win against second place G-K.

Puyallup's next match is against visiting Curtis (5-2, 5-0 4A SPSL Central).

Todd Beamer 5, Jefferson 0: The Raiders now have a new streak.

They’ve lost two consecutive matches.  

Beamer improves to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the 4A SPSL Central with the victory.

The Raiders (3-5, 3-2) have now lost two straight conference matches after their 63-match league winning streak came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Curtis on Sept. 24.

Beamer’s Jake Kim won the top singles match, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 over Kyle Mann and Taesan Nguyen followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jefferson’s Matthew Nguyen.

Rogers 4, Emerald Ridge 1: The Rams (3-2 4A SPSL) started strong in the match, dominating in both singles matches.

Tyshawn Murchsion won 6-2, 6-1 and Alec Goelzer won 6-0, 6-1, setting Rogers up for a big win against cross town rival Emerald Ridge (2-3 4A SPSL).

Bellarmine Prep 5, South Kitsap 0: Matt Sullivan and Taylor Slartry cruised in the singles matches as the Lions earned the victory over the Wolves.

Sullivan won the top singles match over South Kitsap’s Connor Anchick, 6-0, 6-0 and Slartry followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the No. 2 singles match.

North Thurston 5, Lincoln 0: Joonick Ahn and Ryan Joiner each won their singles matches as the Rams cruised to the win over the Abes.

Ahn beat Lincoln’s Lazeyrick Heinz 6-0, 6-0 in the top singles match and Joiner followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Johnny Nguyen.

Capital 4, Wilson 1: After losing the first singles match, the Cougars rallied back and won four straight games to take the match. 

Auburn 5, Lakes 0: Bryan Thornquist set the tone with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the top singles match as the Trojans cruised from there.
