Week 4 play call of the week: Not as expected, but Bonney Lake’s Jason Day scores game-winning 2-point conversion in OT
BONNEY LAKE 15,
ENUMCLAW 14 (OT)
Play: 14 down
Set: Muddle huddle
Down and distance: Two-point conversion
Time remaining: Overtime
Score at the time: Enumclaw 14, Bonney Lake 13
What happened: Bonney Lake was ready to end this thing and went for two in overtime — except Enumclaw sniffed out the play. Panthers quarterback Jason Day lined up in shotgun formation behind the center, with a pair of running backs to his side. One receiver was split to the right, and another six players were bunched to the left. The play was designed for Day to run to the right, with Enumclaw’s defense overloading Bonney Lake’s bunch on the left. Plus, Day had just answered Enumclaw’s overtime TD with a 4-yard TD run. “Last minute, the defense shifts over,” said Bonney Lake coach Jason Silbaugh. “We were outnumbered.” But Day hesitated, made one defender miss, sped for the edge and dove through a crease into the end zone for the winning score. For good measure, Day proceeded to get up, race to the other end of the end zone and up the Panthers’ sideline with a mob of teammates chasing him.
