Prep swimming: Willow Lopez-Silvers earns state-qualifying times in Curtis’ 98-88 win over Puyallup
The Curtis High School girls swim team edged Puyallup, 98-88 on Thursday at the Curtis Aquatic Center.
Curtis’ Willow Lopez-Silvers swam a state-qualifying time in the 50 freestyle at 24.83 seconds and the 100 free at 54.40 seconds.
Puyallup also saw Mackenzie Mergel qualify for state in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.58, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Maddie Joy, Lindsey Muiznieks, Kacey Kiuchi and Mackenzie Mergel with a time of 3:46.16.
Olympia 109, Timberline 74: Melissa Ward participated in the 50 free, 100 free, and the 400 free relay, all of which she won for the Bears.
Peninsula 125, Auburn Riverside 58: The Seahawks swept all the events against the Ravens, with Klara Messersmith, Whitney Mundle, Lissa Racette and Constance Kirby setting the tone with a 200 medley relay victory in 2:05.49.
Mundle also won the 50 free in 27.71 seconds, the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.07 and helped the 400 freestyle relay team win in 4:18.38.
Messersmith took first in the 100 free in 1:03.82 and helped the 200 freestyle relay team in win in 1:56.67.
Stadium 125, South Kitsap 55: Aspen Monkhouse had a state qualifying time of 24.90 in the 50 free for the Wolves.
Steilacoom 139, Fife 44: Miranda Just won the 100 butterfly in 1:15.60, the 100 backstroke in 1:12.01 and helped lead the Sentinels’ 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams to first-place finishes.
Rachel Forbes was part of both those relay teams and won the 50 free in 27.89 seconds and the 500 free in 6:02.17.
