AUBURN MOUNTAINVIEW 46, LAKES 42

Play: Quick 22s bubble

Set: Trips right flare

Down and distance: Fourth-and-goal from Lakes 5

Time remaining: 53.5 seconds, Fourth quarter

Score at the time: 42-40, Lakes

What happened: Auburn Mountainview could have taken the lead with a field goal, but coach Jared Gervais wanted the game to come down to his best player, Gresch Jensen, making a play. That after Jensen missed the first play of the drive after suffering an ankle injury while playing defense. Lakes had the play pretty well covered except for Vaughn Daggs across the middle. It appeared the Lakes defender thought he had inside help, only Daggs was wide open when he broke on a slant. Jensen hit Daggs for the go-ahead touchdown and gave the Lions their first lead in a game in which they once trailed 42-21. “We used flare motion to make the defense declare man or zone or to check the defense,” AMV offensive coordinator Brian Grout said. “Then our QB picks the best matchup or open person. We wanted our best players with the ball in their hands at the end of the game.”
