VIDEO: Yelm's Kaleb Lunderville catches overtime TD
BELLARMINE PREP 35 (OT)
Play: Strong open blast (tag) bingo.
Set: 2 back.
Down and distance: Second-and-eight on Bellarmine Prep’s 23.
Time remaining: Overtime.
Score at the time: 35-35.
What happened: The touchdown pass that beat the Seattle Seahawks wasn’t the only seam route being talked about in these parts. Yelm had not beaten Bellarmine since it joined the 4A Narrows League in 2012, and trailed 35-21 in the third quarter. But the Tornados tied the game with 4:23 to play in regulation on Daylon Matthews’ 43-yard TD pass to Marcus Shivers. In overtime, Matthews had the option to hand off to running back Brandon Thompson or throw down the seam, depending on how he read Bellarmine’s outside linebacker hovering over Kaleb Lunderville, who already had two TD catches in the game. “(Matthews) saw the matchup we were looking for on the hash, audibled a ‘bingo’ call,” Yelm coach Jason Ronquillo said. “And (the linebacker) squeezed briefly and tried to get back in coverage, but was too late to get to the ball.” The Tornados’ defense then secured the win by forcing Bellarmine to turn the ball over on downs.
