HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCERSTATE TOURNAMENT PRIMER

CLASS 2B/1B STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday-Saturday, Sunset Chev Stadium, Sumner

2014 champion: Mount Vernon Christian

Friday’s semifinals

6 p.m.: Mount Vernon Christian (20-1) vs. Saint George's (15-4)

8 p.m.: Crosspoint (13-4) vs. Tacoma Baptist (15-1)

Saturday’s Schedule

Championship is at 4 p.m. with third-place match at noon.

The skinny: Defending champ Mount Vernon Christian is still alive. F Jack Hammingh, who was co-state tournament player of the year last season, was second in the state this season with 33 goals. The Hurricanes did have their 40-match winning streak ended by Tacoma Baptist in the district finals. … St. George’s is making its seventh state semifinal appearance since winning the 2B title in 1999. F Michael Hamilton leads the team with 26 goals. … Tacoma Baptist has plenty of offensive firepower with F Riley Byrne (21 goals) and MF Seth Talen (15 goals). The Crusaders were back-to-back 2B champions in 2007 and 2008. … Crosspoint Academy’s girls team is the two-time defending 2B champions. But for the boys, this is only their second state berth — and first trip to the final four. The Warriors are led by sophomore MF Hunter Feldbush and freshman F Jackson Kimmel, who have 16 goals apiece.
