Prep basketball: Lincoln outlasts Bellarmine Prep in OT despite Malachi Flynn’s 43 points

Malachi Flynn scored 43 points.

He can do that, Bellarmine Prep boys basketball coach Bernie Salazar said.

It’s just not always going to work.

Despite Flynn’s outburst, the Lions lost their season opener in a nonleague thriller against visiting Lincoln, 76-73, in overtime on Tuesday after the Lions outscored the Abes by 20 points in the fourth quarter just to tie it.

Trevion Brown and Trevante Anderson scored 16 points each for the 3A Narrows Abes against the Lions of the 4A Narrows.

Lincoln led 20-5 after the first quarter, but Flynn, committed to the University of Pacific, helped Bellarmine Prep outscore the Abes 29-9 in the fourth quarter to tie it.

"He reminds me a lot of Steph Curry," Salazar said of Flynn.

But Lincoln regained momentum in overtime and sustained it to leave with the win.
