All-state soccer teams: Curtis’ Morgan Weaver selected as Class 4A most valuable player

Morgan Weaver of Curtis High School was selected as the most valuable girls soccer player in the 4A classification by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association.

That after The News Tribune’s three-time All-Area player of the year led Curtis to the state quarterfinals and scored 36 goals with 11 assists. She plans on attending Washington State University next year.

The classification MVPs included Weaver (4A), Seattle Prep defender Sam Hiatt (3A), Ridgefield midfielder Taryn Ries (2A), Seattle Christian’s Abigail Kim (1A) and Okanogan’s Jill Townsend (2B-1B). St. George’s defender Collin Cremers and Mount Vernon Christian midfielder Dalton McIlrath shared the 2B-1B boys soccer MVP.

Weaver was also a first-team forward in 4A, which includes Gig Harbor’s Leahi Manthei. The first-team midfielders are entirely made up from from the 4A SPSL, with Kentridge’s Olivia Van der Jagt, Tahoma’s Mia Corbin, Todd Beamer’s Ameera Hussen and Puyallup’s Jordyn Bartelson all being selected.

Bellarmine Prep’s Emily Nelson was selected as a first-team defender.

In Class 3A, Capital’s Rachel Wofford was named a first-team forward and Sumner’s Jordan Thompson a first-team defender.

In Class 2A, White River’s Mack Breeden, the co-2A SPSL most valuable player, earned first-team midfielder and Tumwater’s Kayse Smack first-team defender.

Cascade Christian’s Kierstin Patefield was named the top goalkeeper in 1A.

In the 2B-1B combined girls soccer all-state teams, Mt. Rainier Lutheran’s Taylor Hoffman was a first-team forward.

Tacoma Baptist had Ryley Byrne named as a first-team midfielder and Ryan Ratliff a first-team defender on the all-state combined 2B-1B boys soccer team after the Crusaders reached the state championship.
