Girls basketball: North Thurston’s rally falls short against Central Kitsap
GIRLS BASKETBALL
North Thurston could not finish the comeback and was defeated, 65-62, on its home court by Central Kitsap on Wednesday night.
The Rams “ran out of gas,” according to coach Mike Harn.
North Thurston freshman guard Brooklyn Harn scored 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter and Rokki Brown went 8 for 8 at the free-throw line in the fourth as well.
The Rams outscored the Cougars, 25-16, to cut the Central Kitsap lead to three, but it wasn’t enough.
Starr Rodenhurst was the offensive leader for the Cougars, scoring a game-high 24 points. Olivia Krog and Vanessa Davis both had 14 points for Central Kitsap.
Timberline 52, Olympia 41: Timberline maintained a lead for the majority of the game, and was outscored only in the third period (14-13).
Rayanna Dyas, a freshman forward, led the Blazers with 13 points.
Shelton 51, Foss 41: The Highclimbers outscored the Falcons, 27-13, in the first half en route to victory. Davenna Anderson scored 17 points for Foss.
Lincoln 62, Mount Tahoma 30: The Abes took it to the T-Birds to remain undefeated in 3A Narrows League play (7-0). Tamia Braggs had a game-high 21 points for Lincoln.
Gig Harbor 62, Stadium 22: The Tides outscored the Tigers, 35-7, in the first half. The Tigers did not reach double digits in a single quarter.
Tessa Waage led the Tides with 15 points, while Brynna Maxwell and Maddie Willett both had 13.
Junior Vanessa Higgins scored 16 points for the Tigers.
Graham-Kapowsin 47, Eatonville 19: The Eagles led all the way, paced by Shea McKnight, who had 11 points, and Shelby Quilin, who had 10.
Bellarmine Prep 58, South Kitsap 19: The Lions outscored the Wolves, 39-14, in the first half. Shaylse Smith recorded a double-double for Bellarmine: 16 points, 10 rebounds. Smith also had three blocks.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Bellarmine Prep 61, South Kitsap 51: Malachi Flynn scored 24 points and Issac Wojtanowicz added 15 as the Lions won a 4A Narrows League matchup. The Lions outscored the Wolves, 19-11, during the fourth quarter to remain undefeated in league play with six wins.
Gig Harbor 56, Stadium 40: The Tigers were held to 12 points in the second half as the Tides ran away from them. Sam Gagliardi scored 19 points and Michael Toglia had 17 for Gig Harbor. Both players had eight rebounds.
Lincoln 63, Mount Tahoma 51: Despite Destin Hick-Armstrong (11 points, 10 rebounds) and AJ Braffith (12 points, 11 rebounds) recording double-doubles, the T-Birds could not pull out a victory.
Wilson 63, Capital 47: The Rams outscored the Cougars, 16-8, in the fourth quarter. David Jenkins Jr. led the way for Wilson with 30 points.
Puyallup 81, Evergreen 65: Tony Gutierrez scored a game-high 25 points for the Vikings. Puyallup outscored the Plainsmen, 26-18, in the fourth quarter.
North Thurston 70, Central Kitsap 47: Jeremy Spencer scored 21 points for the victorious Rams. Zack Sibley had 17 points while Wes Reynolds and Darren Sroor both added 14 for North Thurston.
BOYS WRESTLING
Evan Janson and Nathan Hiatt got Curtis off to a strong start against Graham-Kapowsin, pinning their opponents during the first round.
Janson’s pin came in 1:55, Hiatt’s in 1:46. The Vikings won, 49-22, taking 10 of the 14 weight classes.
Todd Beamer 48, Jefferson 27: The Titans’ Sean Van Earwage pinned his opponent in 28 seconds for the quickest pin of the night.
