Madison Pollock’s late heroics lift Snohomish to 54-50 OT win over Lewis and Clark

Madison Pollock said she had never before hit a shot like that.

In the waning seconds of regulation, Pollock drove the length of the court, busted through the paint and hit the game-tying shot as time expired and the Snohomish High School girls basketball team went on to stun fifth-ranked Lewis and Clark for a 54-50 overtime victory on Thursday to advance to the 4A state semifinals.

She didn’t even know she had got it off in time. Or if she had made it.

“It was unreal,” Pollock said, smiling in disbelief. She scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Panthers, who advance to play Bothell at 3:45 p.m. Friday. “I just took it, tried to draw the foul. But it went in.”

Pollock, a 6-foot-1 post committed to Montana State, hit a 3-pointer with 27 seconds to play to cut Lewis and Clark’s lead to 46-44.

Lewis and Clark’s Riley Lupfer, who scored 22 points, missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 5.6 seconds to play and Madeline Smith grabbed the rebound. She fed it to Pollock, who took it the rest of the way.

Smith hit a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to go to put Snohomish ahead by two possessions and seal the victory.

But the game was really won on that Pollock buzzer-beater.

“We were pumped that we had even tied it,” Smith said. “Everyone was just so hyped. Going into overtime, I knew we had a job to do.

“It’s senior year, I wanted to do it for everyone on the team. We just had to win.”

Lewis and Clark heads to the consolation bracket to play Kentlake in an elimination game at 9 a.m.
