Kamiakin girls hold off Edmonds-Woodway for semifinals berth

These games are the reason people love state basketball.

The Kamiakin Braves edged Edmonds-Woodway, 56-54, in a nail-biting battle that was as tight as it comes during the playoffs. They were able to hold on, despite losing the 26-6 lead built during the first quarter. The Braves scores just 30 points over the final three quarters.

Missy Peterson, who scored 31 points during her last game, the upset over No. 5 Auburn Riverside, scored 11 points and was 4-of-16 for the game. Kamiakin put all their trust in Oumou Toure, who recorded a double-double for the Braves — 22 points, 10 rebounds. Toure was all over the court, she was 8-of-15 on the floor, and drilled two threes.

Kamiakin could not find the touch they had during the first quarter. They were held to just 14 points in the second and third quarters, combined.

Adrienne Poling’s 12 points led the Warriors.

Kamiakin will play Arlington, who defeated Lincoln, in the semifinals. Edmonds-Woodway will face Lincoln at 10:30 a.m.
