Mikey Henn leads Bellevue over Stanwood in 3A consolation game

Mikey Henn wasn’t going to allow what happened Thursday to the Bellevue High School boys basketball team to happen again Friday.

He scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and led the Wolverines past Stanwood for a 66-56 victory in the first round of consolations of the 3A state tournament.

Bellevue will play Cleveland, which ended Lincoln’s season, for the fourth- or sixth-place state trophy at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Tacoma Dome.

The Wolverines led 36-19 at halftime a game after losing to Kennedy Catholic in the 3A state quarterfinals.

Henn, a 6-foot-7 senior committed to UC Davis, made 5 of 9 shots, but did most of his work at the free throw line, making 11 of 14.

Andrew Kenny added 16 points and Sharif Khan scored 10 for Bellevue, which hopes for its highest state finish since placing third in the 2014 tournament with a win over Wilson. It placed sixth last year after losing in the state quarterfinals to Rainier Beach.

AJ Martinka led Stanwood with 11 points and Quinton Borseth scored nine. The Spartans ended their season with an 18-8 record.
