Moses Lake girls bounce back with win over Skyview

No. 2 Moses Lake had its back against the wall heading into Friday’s consolation game against Skyview, after losing to No. 1 Central Valley in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Thankfully for the Moses Lake, Jessie Loera stepped up, as the Gonzaga commit scored a game-high 19 points and powered her team past the Storm, 50-41, at the Tacoma Dome.

“She was in attack mode,” said coach Matt Strophy. “When she has that offensive energy I think everyone really kind of follows suit and that’s really the difference between today and yesterday.”

Despite suffering their first loss of the season Thursday, the Chiefs (24-1) showed no signs of lingering disappointment Friday.

“It’s a privilege to be here, said Loera “and I know we lost yesterday but we put that in our past and we were looking forward to this next game and putting all we’ve got into it. Coming out with more fire then we did the day before to make up for what we lost.”

Loera’s younger sister, Jamie Loera also did her part, scoring 15.

Jessie said the whole team benefits when her little sister scores well, herself included.

“She steps up a lot and I’m happy she does because it brings me back up too,” she said. “We help each other out and we bring the team together as one.”

The Chiefs will play Lewis and Clark in the fourth-place game at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Dome.
