Late 3-pointer helps push Union past Lewis & Clark

The Union boy’s basketball team refused to let their season end Friday afternoon.

They defeated Lewis and Clark, 78-71, in overtime, thanks to a clutch three point shot as time dwindled down in regulation.

Union was down by three points with less than 10 seconds to go when Denis Kirichenko pulled up and sunk a corner three to tie the game at 62.

Tyler Combs and Zach Reznick led the Titans (23-3) past the Tigers (20-8) in overtime, where Union outscored Lewis and Clark 16-9. The Titans will end their season against Issaquah, which according to Kirichenko is something the team is extremely happy about.

Cameron Cranston, who was limited to just eight points against Gonzaga Prep, was the game’s leading scorer with 20 points, Nico Bricker displayed some versatile post moves to get open shots in the paint and followed with 18.

“I just knew my teammates had the confidence in me, so I just took it (the shot) and it went in,” said Kirichenko, “I didn’t even think about the shot. I was just focused on getting back on defense so they didn’t score.”
