Todd Beamer girls clamp down on Bothell in fourth, take third
For three quarters, No. 4 Todd Beamer were in a tight battle. The Titans clung to just a two-point lead heading into the fourth.
Then the Titans took over. They held the Cougars to just five points in the final quarter — scoreless for nearly seven minutes — as they won 49-41.
When asked about his team’s defense, head coach Corey Alexander said, “It’s our bread and butter. When our girls are all on the same page, working together, it’s hard to beat us.”
Makenna Woodfolk, who scored a team-high 17 for the Titans, added “Defense, defense was our key.”
Alexander said his team was determined to send its seniors out on a high note after a 55-37 loss to No. 1 Central Valley on Friday.
“We really leaned on each other,” Alexander said. “Yesterday was heartbreaking, we had the tears and the hugs and all that stuff, but we knew we still had business to take care of. So we came out today and said ‘Hey we are going to come out here and win it for our girls and send them off right.’ ”
Woodfolk was adamant that she wanted to perform well for her teammates.
“I do it for my team,” she said. “I don’t like seeing my teammates cry, heartbroken, and I know if my teammates aren’t playing well, I have to step up because I am a leader on the team. It was all for them, it was all for them.”
