High school sports roundup for April 2
BASEBALL
Curtis High School cruised to victory over Hazen behind the stellar, no-hit performance of Jadon Prewitt.
Prewitt went all seven innings, struck out four batters and only walked one en route to the 4-0 victory for the Vikings over the Highlanders.
Billy Beggs was the big contributor at the plate as he drove in three runs on three hits, one of which was a double.
Nico Marchio also drove in a run for the Vikings on a sacrifice fly.
Emerald Ridge 7, Bonney Lake 1: Nathan Packard was an unearned run away from earning a one-hit shutout against the Panthers. Packard went all seven innings, gave up one hit, struck out 13 and walked two.
Chad Gideon went 1-for-3 on the day for the Jaguars, launching a three-run homer.
Thomas Jefferson 6, Auburn Riverside 4: Jacob Swanson’s 3-RBI day was the deciding factor in the Raiders’ victory over the Ravens. Justin Maggerise had an impactful day, contributing a 3-for-4 effort that resulted in 2 RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Jaclyn Gillis had plenty of run support to pick up the 11-6 win for Federal Way over Todd Beamer High School on Saturday.
“[Jaclyn] did really well today,” said Eagles assistant coach Larry Ziegelman. “She was hitting a lot of good spots and the defense was picking up the balls that went behind her. Jaclyn is prepared to go against Tahoma on Monday.”
The Titans took an early 1-0 lead after Jourdin Hering double that drove in Kenzie Palmer, but it was all Federal Way after that.
Hannah Togia did the most damage for Federal Way as she went 1-for-3 and earned 4 RBIs on the day. The Eagles also benefitted from Nicole Gillis going 2-for-5 at the plate, including a double, a run and driving in one.
“I have no problem with how we are hitting. One person may not be having the best day at the plate, but someone else would pick it up,” said Ziegelman. “Hopefully we can keep the pace as the girls are confident, we have a good solid nine and several players that can pick up the slack.”
Jaclyn’s day on the mound included going all seven innings, giving up 10 hits, six earned runs and striking out five.
