The Seattle Mariners continued with their flurry of roster moves this week with the signing of free agent Patrick Wisdom to a one-year contract Wednesday afternoon.

Wisdom, 28, who elected free agency earlier this month, spent most of the 2019 season with Triple-A Nashville in the Rangers’ organization. He slashed at .240/.332/.513 with 15 doubles, 31 home runs and 74 RBI in 107 games with the Sounds playing primarily third base, but also some first base and outfield.

His addition gives the Mariners positional depth behind veteran third baseman Kyle Seager — Wisdom made 56 starts at the position in Triple-A last season and logged nearly 500 innings there with 15 errors — and another potential option at first base (14 starts in 2019) and in the outfield (24 starts) as needed.

Wisdom has played in 41 big-league games during his eight-year professional career — 32 with the Cardinals in 2018 after debuting in August and nine with Texas last season — posting a .224/.306/.408 slash line with two doubles, four homers and 11 RBI.

He was drafted by the Cardinals in the first round in 2012 out of California’s St. Mary’s College.

Wisdom’s addition officially brings the Mariners’ 40-man roster to 39 players. If the earlier reported signing of reliever Carl Edwards Jr. is announced, the roster will be full.
