Mariners invite top prospects to major league spring training

The Seattle Mariners released their list of non-roster invites for 2020 major league spring training Wednesday morning.

Of the 21 players invited to big league camp, 18 were in the organization last season, and 15 were drafted or signed by Seattle when they first turned pro.

“This is the youngest, most intriguing group of non-roster invitees that we’ve had in many years,” Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said in the release. “We are all energized by the prospect of seeing so much of our future on display this spring in Peoria.”

Mariners top prospects Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic — who were recently named the No. 8 and No. 11 overall prospects in baseball by Baseball America — will join other young players Seattle expects to contribute at the big league level in the coming seasons. Pitching prospect Logan Gilbert, Seattle’s first-round draft pick in 2018, is also on the roster.

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Feb. 12 and begin workouts the following day. Position players report on Feb. 17 and begin workouts the following day.

The Mariners have made several roster moves and updates to this list before and during spring training, bringing the major league spring training roster to 71 players, including 30 non-roster invitees.
