Marshawn Lynch finishes Seattle physical, Robert Turbin confirms re-signing with Seahawks
First Marshawn Lynch.
Now Robert Turbin.
It’s Reunion Week in the Seahawks’ backfield.
As Lynch finished his issue-free physical examination Monday evening following meetings with coach Pete Carroll and Seahawks staff inside team headquarters, Turbin posted on his Instagram account his confirmation he’s another running back re-signing with runner-needy Seattle.
Turbin, who with Lynch won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in the 2013 season, doubled-down on his social-media celebration of his reutrn to Seattle.
Meanwhile, Lynch ended his physical with the Seahawks early Monday evening, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That’s one of the last steps before the 33-year-old who has not played a game in 14 months signs back with Seattle, too.
Turbin turned 30 this month. He been close with Seahawks franchise quarterback Russell Wilson since the team drafted both of them two rounds apart in 2012; Wilson was a second-round pick and Turbin went in the fourth.
Turbin played in 48 regular-season games plus back-to-back Super Bowls for Seattle from 2012-14 as a fullback and change-of-pace tailback with Lynch. He then played for Cleveland and Dallas in 2015, then Indianapolis from 2016 until midway through last season. He’s had 928 of his 1,354 career yards rushing with the Seahawks.
Turbin last played an NFL game on Oct. 14, 2018, for the Colts.
That’s the same day Lynch played his last game, for Oakland against the Seahawks in London.
Carroll said on his weekly day-after-game radio show with KIRO AM Monday morning that Lynch was coming to town with the intention of signing a contract for the rest of this season with the Seahawks, and to play in Sunday night’s NFC West championship game against San Francisco at CenturyLink Field.
“He’ll be flying in here this morning and we’re going to give him a really good chance to come back and play for us. I’m fired up for it,” Carroll told 710 ESPN Seattle earlier Monday.
He’s got to get through some hoops he’s got to jump through here, a physical (exam) and stuff like that. But he’s been working really hard. He’s excited for the chance to do something helping out.
“I think it’s freakin’ great.”
The coach who first got to know Lynch recruiting him out of Oakland when Carroll was leading USC in the mid-2000s said he thinks Lynch “may have four or five games left in him.”
The Seahawks (11-4) have Sunday’s game against the 49ers (12-3) then the playoffs remaining in their season. They have lost their top three running backs to season-ending injuries.
Chris Carson fractured his hip in Sunday’s home loss to Arizona. Rashaad Penny has been on injured reserve since early this month and needs reconstructive knee surgery. C.J. Prosise broke his arm against the Cardinals.
The Seahawks now have, or will have when Lynch signs too, three times more available running backs than they had the day before. And two of them won Super Bowl rings with them, and know Carroll’s system better than almost anybody.
