Seattle Seahawks

Shopping at running back and receiver, Seahawks make a roster move ... at guard

While they shop for possible additions at wide receiver and running back, the Seahawks made a roster move on New Year’s Eve.

At guard.

They put Ethan Pocic (back) on injured reserve and signed guard Kyle Fuller from the practice squad to the active roster for Sunday’s NFC wild-card playoff game at Philadelphia.

Seattle also signed wide receiver Jaylen Smith to the practice squad, to fill Fuller’s vacated spot.

Pocic was one of the two Seahawks designated to return from injured reserve this season. He went on IR two days before Seattle’s win at Cleveland in mid-October with a back injury. He was activated from IR Dec. 14, then played on special teams in the win at Carolina and some at left guard in the home loss to Arizona this month before getting a nerve injury in his neck and then a core-muscle injury.

Fuller was Houston’s seventh-round draft choice from Baylor in 2017. He’s been on the Seahawks’ practice squad since Sept. 2. He’s played in nine NFL games, as a rookie with the Texans. He’s also been with Miami and Washington the past two seasons.

Smith is an undrafted rookie from Louisville. Baltimore waived him before the start of this season. The XFL’s DC team drafted Smith in October.

Seattle is without backup wide receiver Malik Turner because of a concussion and Jaron Brown for at least a couple of weeks with a sprained knee.

And one week after signing back Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin, the Seahawks tried out another former running back of theirs: Alex Collins. Baltimore released Seattle’s former third-round pick during this season because he got suspended three games by the NFL following his arrest in March on charges of marijuana possession and gun possession in Maryland.

“We’re just making sure we’re doing everything we can,” Carroll said. “We’re just looking to continue to compete to figure out who’s out there and all that. Alex has had some good play. Guys that we wanted to see looked pretty good in the workout.”
