Earl Thomas comments on TMZ report his wife allegedly pointed a gun at him
Earl Thomas’ wife allegedly pointed a loaded gun near the head of former Seahawks’ All-Pro safety in what police describe as a violent confrontation over Thomas’ alleged infidelity, according to a report by TMZ.
Thomas, the original member of the Seahawks’ famed Legion of Boom secondary who now plays for the Baltimore Ravens, posted a video on Instagram Wednesday night. He said he was “wanting to get ahead of it” before TMZ broke this story.
“I mean, it’s really not anybody’s business,” Thomas. who turns 32 Thursday, says on the 48-second video. “It’s pissing me off that it got out, but that’s the world we live in today.
“But, instead of talking about us, just keep us in y’all’s prayers. And, stuff like this happens, bro. You know, we try to live the best lives we possibly can, but sometimes it doesn’t go as planned. Just pray for us as we go through this stuff. We’re back talkin’. I’m seeing my kids.
“So just keep us in your prayers.”
TMZ reported it obtained court documents that included police statements of an incident at a home in Austin, Texas, where Thomas, a former University of Texas star, lives with his wife, Nina.
TMZ says court documents describe Thomas’ brother picking up Thomas April 13 and driving him away after Nina confronted Thomas at home about his alleged drinking. The report states Thomas’ wife located her husband by tracking his social-media account. She then summoned friends of hers to go with her to the location to which she had tracked Thomas.
Nina Thomas reportedly told police she grabbed her husband’s 9mm pistol on her way out of their home, with the intent to scare him, and removed the magazine of ammunition. The report said she did not know the gun still had a bullet in its chamber.
TMZ quotes police saying one of the women in the house Thomas had gone to with his brother shot cell-phone video of what happened after Thomas’ wife came upon her husband and his brother in bed naked with other women. TMZ reports the police saying the video shows his wife pointing the gun at Earl Thomas’ head “from less than a foot away and it can clearly be seen that Nina’s finger was on the trigger and the safety is disengaged.”
TMZ reported police describe Earl Thomas was able to wrestle the gun from his wife.
TMZ reported police ultimately arrested his wife and the two women who accompanied her to the house where Thomas and his brother were allegedly with the women. The charge was reportedly burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon—family violence. She was released on bond.
TMZ reports Earl Thomas was not arrested.
The outlet reported his wife’s attorney, Jonathan Goins, told TMZ: “I am here to declare that my client unequivocally and categorically denies these allegations and we look forward to our day in court where we can clear her good name.”
Late Wednesday night, Nina Thomas issued on Instragram her own statement through her lawyer refuting the report and allegations.
Thomas starred for the Seahawks as coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider’s second draft choice running the franchise, in 2010, through September 2018. He broke his leg that month in a game at Arizona, in the final year of his contract with him angry Seattle had not extended it. He never played another game for the Seahawks. Thomas signed with the Ravens 14 months ago, in March 2019, for $55 million over four years. He is still under contract with Baltimore for three more seasons.
In October, the Ravens played the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Thomas was hailed and cheered as a returning hero. After the game ended in a Ravens win, Thomas and Seahawks All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner hugged at midfield. Thomas then exchanged game jerseys in the middle of the field with Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. Thomas and Wilson then hugged, too.
“I hold Earl in high regard, man. I really love him,” Wilson said that day.
Thomas ran off the field twirling Wilson’s game jersey in the tunnel to the locker room, as Ravens fans celebrating his triumphant return roared.
