Russell Wilson, Ciara have their baby, born on eve of Seahawks training camp
Number 3 and his wife have their third child.
Russell Wilson and Ciara on Friday announced the birth of Win Harrison Wilson. He was born Thursday at eight pounds and one ounce.
The middle name is the name of Wilson’s late father. Harrison Wilson III died June 9, 2010, at age 55 after a battle with cancer and complications from diabetes. The Seahawks’ franchise quarterback talks about his father often as his inspiration.
News of Win’s birth came four days before the entire Seahawks roster is due to report to training camp at team headquarters in Renton—and get immediately tested for the COVID-19 virus. Initially the NFL had Wilson and quarterbacks reporting on Thursday. That, by Wilson’s baby post online, obviously did not happen.
Instead the NFL and its players’ union have been negotiating coronavirus safety protocols and financial arrangements to open camps.
Wilson has been talking about how concerned he’s been about his wife being pregnant and having to practice and play football while COVID-19 cases continue to spike in many NFL states, including Washington.
“I am concerned. My wife is pregnant,” Wilson posted on Twitter Sunday. “@NFL Training camp is about to start..And there’s still No Clear Plan on Player Health & Family Safety. We want to play football but we also want to protect our loved ones. #WeWantToPlay”
Wilson reiterated that concern on the Jimmy Kimmel Live television show remotely this week.
“C’s pregnant, you know. We are going to have another new baby in the world at some point here. I know there are so many others, too, that have family and loved ones and everything else,” Wilson said.
“At the end of the day, we want to play. ...And us Seahawks, we want to go to the Super Bowl and win it all. So that’s our focus. But we want to do it in a safe way.”
Now he’s got another (really) little one at home to protect.
