Chris Carson rejoins Seahawks at mock game after multiple family deaths; no wrap for Adams

Chris Carson is back, to be the Seahawks’ lead back in his contract year.

The team’s number-one running back rejoined Seattle for its second and final mock game of training camp Wednesday at CenturyLink Field. He missed nine of the first 11 practices of camp to tend to the far more important matters surrounding multiple deaths in his family and funerals in his native Georgia.

Carson was in full pads warming up with his teammates for the scrimmage. He did not play in it.

“Our hearts go out to Chris,” coach Pete Carroll said two weeks ago. “He’s going through some really big stuff with family members that he is looking after and taking care of.”

The Seahawks have had just three healthy and available running backs for most of camp. Number-two rusher Rashaad Penny remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list following reconstructive knee surgery in December. Penny is likely to miss the first six games of the season on the PUP list.

Carlos Hyde was been Carson’s fill-in during his first practice since signing this offseason from Houston. Travis Homer, a sixth-round draft choice last season, has shown good pass blocking in practices.

DeeJay Dallas has used Carson’s and Penny’s absences to become one of the stars of camp. The rookie fourth-round pick from the University of Miami has impressed coaches with his advanced skills and grasp of Seattle’s passing game in particular.

That figures: Dallas was a wide receiver at Miami, and a high school quarterback at Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia.

Carson has six practices before the first regular-season game week of the season to get ready for the opener, Sept. 13 at his hometown Atlanta Falcons.

Ford back

Starting defensive tackle Poona Ford was in full pads lined up next to tackle partner Jarran Reed for warmups with the number-one defense Tuesday. A few minutes later, Ford was with Reed on the starting defensive line for the beginning of the scrimmage.

He had missed the last week with a strained calf.

Ford missed one game last September with a strained calf.

Dorsett still ailing

The only thing slowing zooming wide receiver Phillip Dorsett in this camp: a sore foot.

Dorsett was out for the third consecutive day. He was not on the field for warmups for the mock game.

Carroll said at the start of this week Dorsett’s injury was not series.

No wrap for Adams

Adams took part in pre-game warmups. But he did not play in the scrimmage.

He practiced Tuesday wearing a bulbous, black wrap over his left hand for the first time.
