Seahawks receiver Phillip Dorsett questionable to play his former Patriots

Phillip Dorsett’s chances to play his former team are iffy.

The veteran wide receiver’s debut for the Seahawks remains on hold because of a foot injury. He returned to practice this week on a limited basis. But he did not practice Friday, a lighter workout. The team then listed Dorsett as questionable to play in its home opener Sunday night against the New England Patriots.

Dorsett missed the season opener last weekend, Seattle’s 38-25 win at Atlanta. The 27-year-old receiver had 73 receptions with eight touchdowns in 45 games over three seasons with quarterback Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week his team did not know Dorsett had been having foot pain when Seattle signed him to a one-year contract worth just over $1 million this offseason.

His absence has meant David Moore has been the third wide receiver for Russell Wilson. Rookie sixth-round draft choice Freddie Swain moved up in the rotation at the position and had his first catch in the NFL in his first game.

Defensive end Rasheem Green and reserve offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi are doubtful for Sunday night’s game. Both missed practice all week.

Green, Seattle’s sack leader last season with four, got a nerve pinched in his neck after playing 30 of Seattle’s 79 defensive snaps against the Falcons in the opener. L.J. Collier, the team’s first-round draft choice last season, gets a starting role with Benson Mayowa Sunday night while Green likely is sidelined.

Rookie fifth-round draft choice Alton Robinson is likely to be active for the game and make his Seattle and NFL debut.

Ogbuehi is a swing backup tackle to Duane Brown on the left and Brandon Shell on the right side. He is also an option to be an extra, sixth offensive lineman in running situation as a blocking tight end. That’s the role backup tackle George Fant had last season for Seattle. Fant left in free agency to sign with the New York Jets this spring.
