Phillip Dorsett doesn’t make Seahawks debut vs. old team. Two rookie picks still inactive
Phillip Dorsett did not get to play against his former Patriots.
Rookie draft choices DeeJay Dallas and Alton Robinson still haven’t played their first NFL games after impressive training camps.
The three players Seattle added this offseason were inactive for the second time in two weeks to begin this season, this time for the team’s home opener Sunday night against New England.
Defensive end Rasheem Green was also inactive. The team’s sack leader in 2019 was doubtful to play because of a pinched nerve he got in his neck during Seattle’s opening win at Atlanta.
Dorsett returned to practice on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday and was questionable to play because of the foot issue coach Pete Carroll has said the speedy wide receiver has had for a long time. The Seahawks did not know of the issue before they signed the veteran this spring from New England on a one-year contract for just over $1 million.
Carroll has said Dorsett is the fastest player he’s had since he took over coaching Seattle in 2020. That was before his foot issue returned.
Dallas appeared to be gaining on 2019 draft pick Travis Homer as the third-down running back to receive and block for quarterback Russell Wilson. But the fourth-round pick from Miami watched in street clothes for the second straight game as Homer played instead.
Robinson, the fifth-round pick, showed strength and speed in pass rushing during training camp, for a defensive line that needs more pressure on quarterbacks with Green out and second-round pick Darrell Taylor on the non-football-injury list for at least another month.
Benson Mayowa, L.J. Collier and Damontre Moore were the ends on the thinned defensive line.
Seattle’s other inactive players: reserve offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi (pectoral injury) and reserve linebacker D’Andre Walker.
The starting lineups during pregame warmups were the same they were for Seattle in the opener at Atlanta. Quinton Dunbar again started over Tre Flowers at right cornerback. The starting defensive ends were Collier and Mayowa.
All-Pro safety Jamal Adams wore a black, bulky brace over his right elbow but was full go. A Falcons offensive lineman fell on Adams’ arm on the safety’s sack in Atlanta in week one. Adams finished the game, with 12 tackles, and practice all this past week.
