Seahawks go younger at tight end, re-sign former UW Husky Will Dissly: 3 years, $24M

Will Dissly is coming back for the Seahawks, for the third time.

All the way back following two season-ending injuries his first two NFL seasons with Seattle, Dissly agreed on Monday to re-sign with the Seahawks instead of test the free-agent market that opens Wednesday.

The former University of Washington Husky announced the deal on his Twitter account in a very Pacific Northwest way: He simply posted “SEA!” That’s the start of fans’ favorite “SEA! HAWKS!” chant at games.

Dissly’s deal is reportedly three years and $24 million, per NFL Network.

The 25-year-old native of Bozeman, Montana, has had 76 catches with nine touchdowns over his first four seasons since Seattle drafted him in the fourth round in 2018 out of UW.

The Seahawks are going younger, athletic and varied at tight end for 2022.

Dissly joins 24-year-old Noah Fant, acquired last week in the massive trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, as Seattle’s top two tight ends right now. Colby Parkinson, a 6-foot-7 draft choice in 2020 who is only 23, is the third tight end.

That makes Gerald Everett, 27, on his way out. He is a free agent after his only season with Seattle as the team’s number-one tight end that included dropped passes, fumbles and missing two games after testing positive for COVID-19.

Dissly tore the Achilles tendon in his foot early in his second NFL season with Seattle, a non-contact an injury coach Pete Carroll said at the time was “devastating.”

That was months after Dissly had returned from another major injury. He had his standout rookie season end after two touchdowns in four games in 2018 because of ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee. He went on injured reserve and missed the rest of that season.

He’s had 29 and 26 catches in each of the last two seasons in his double comebacks from injury. He’s played in 31 of a possible 32 regular-season games the last two years, earning Wilson’s trust and respect inside Seattle’s locker room.

He will have a new quarterback with whom to bond this year.
