As usual, the initial Seahawks roster for the regular season has already changed, less than 24 hours after its creation.

The NFL’s official transactions Wednesday morning listed Seattle as having claimed off league waivers defensive end Darryl Johnson from Carolina and cornerback Isaiah Dunn from the New York Jets.

Johnson and Dunn were due to arrive in Seattle Wednesday night.

Johnson and Dunn go onto the Seahawks’ 53-man active roster. The corresponding moves to create roster space for them: the team waived undrafted rookie linebacker Joshua Onujiogu and cornerback John Reid went on shorter-term injured reserve after he “aggravated a soft-tissue thing,” coach Pete Carroll said.

Players put on injured reserve after making the initial regular-season roster, as Reid did, can return after missing a minimum of four games.

Seattle’s coaches would like to get Onujiogu through waivers and onto the practice squad.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound Johnson is known as an edge rusher who can also play linebacker. That fits the Seahawks’ move to more 3-4 schemes with outside linebackers as primary pass rushers. The Panthers waived him Tuesday among their final preseason cuts.

He played three games for Carolina after it traded a sixth-round draft choice last season to Buffalo to acquire Johnson. He played 31 of a possible 32 regular-season games for the Bills in 2019 and ‘20. The Bills drafted him in the sixth round in 2019 from North Carolina A&T.

Dunn, 6-0 and 193 pounds, played in 12 games with one start last season as a rookie free agent from Oregon State. Yes, he has 32-inch arms, Carroll’s preference for long cornerbacks in Seattle’s defense.

The league’s transaction wire showed safety Marquise Blair were among those waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday who cleared waivers and are now free agents.

Wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside cleared waivers and was headed to the Seahawks’ 16-man practice squad.

Others the Seahawks waived Tuesday who cleared waivers Wednesday and are free agents: tight end Cade Brewer, linebacker Aaron Donkor, linebacker Joel Dublanko, quarterback Jacob Eason, guard Greg Eiland, wide receiver Aaron Fuller, defensive tackle Jarrod Hewitt, cornerback Jameson Houston, wide receiver Cade Johnson, linebacker Vi Jones, wide receiver Kevin Kassis, tight end Tyler Mabry, wide receiver Bo Melton, linebacker Tanner Muse, safety Scott Nelson, running back Ronnie Rivers, offensive tackle Liam Ryan, offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley, wide receiver Freddie Swain, running back Darwin Thompson, linebacker Lakiem Williams from Spanaway Lake High School and Tacoma and safety Deontai Williams.

Running back Josh Johnson cleared waivers and went on Seattle’s injured-reserve list.

12 signed to practice squad
