Dee Eskridge, Kenny McIntosh Seahawks healthy scratches vs Washington

Weeks after he returned from suspension, Dee Eskridge was of no use to the Seahawks.

The wide receiver and the team’s top choice in the 2021 NFL draft was inactive Sunday for the game against the Washington Commanders at Lumen Field. He was a healthy scratch. He played three snaps on offense and 24 on special teams in the last two games, with four kickoff returns and one fly-sweep run on offense.

Eskridge missed the first six games of this season on NFL suspension following a domestic-violence incident with the mother of their infant child. Upon his return to the team last month Eskridge, 26, talked about his appreciation for and the importance of court-ordered counseling and therapy.

Rookies Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Jake Bobo remain ahead of Eskridge as the third and fourth wide receivers behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Dareke Young was active Sunday to make his season debut as a fifth wide receiver and versatile blocker. The team added him to the active roster on Saturday, off injured reserve.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on the team’s pregame radio show Sunday the coaches expect the 6-foot-2, 224-pound Young to pick up where he left off as a multi-position rookie last season.

“Core special teams player, and a hell of a blocker,” Schneider said. “He’s a big, physical person.

“The special-teams coaches are ready to get him going.”

The Seahawks also added Kenny McIntosh off injured reserve to the active roster Saturday. But they left the rookie running back inactive for Sunday’s game. His 21-day window with a roster exemption was to end Wednesday.

“He’s done a great job working his tail off to get back,” Schneider said.

Rookie guard Anthony Bradford, who has started four games this season, was inactive with an ankle injury. Phil Haynes has returned from his calf injury to play right guard, where Bradford had been filling in.

Seattle’s other inactive players were reserves who rarely play: offensive linemen Raiqwon O’Neal and McClendon Curtis, plus defensive tackle Myles Adams.

The Seahawks activated 41-year-old Jason Peters from the practice squad Saturday, for the third consecutive Sunday game. The former All-Pro left tackle with Philadelphia is out of practice-squad elevations. The team in the next couple days could sign Peters to the active roster, which they are likely to do, or offer him free agency. He’d been alternating with Stone Forsythe at right tackle the previous two games, with starter Abe Lucas still on injured reserve.

Coach Pete Carroll has said he expects Lucas to return to practice this coming week, prior to Seattle’s division game at the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday.
