Seahawks have their new 3rd quarterback, in from the Minnesota Vikings
The Seahawks have their new third quarterback, in time for the season beginning.
Seattle signed former Minnesota Vikings and Brigham Young quarterback Jaren Hall to its practice squad Monday. Hall was ready to practice as the Seahawks began game-week preparations for the opener against Denver at Lumen Field Sunday (1:05 p.m., channel 7).
The team had veteran P.J. Walker as its quarterback behind starter Geno Smith and Sam Howell throughout training camp and the preseason. Seattle released Walker amid its final preseason cuts to set the initial 53-man roster for the regular season last week.
Hall made Minnesota’s initial 53, then the Vikings waived him last week.
The Seahawks waived former Washington State wide receiver Easop Winston Jr. from the practice squad to make room for Hall going on it.
Hall, 26, replaced injured Vikings starter Kirk Cousins last season then started two games for Minnesota in his rookie season, a win at Atlanta and home loss to Green Bay. He completed 13 of 20 passes for 168 yards with one interception.
During his two years as a starter at BYU, Hall threw for 5,754 yards, 51 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also rushing for 685 yards and six scores. Hall also played baseball at BYU.
Hall was the Vikings’ fifth-round choice in the 2023 draft out. fifth-round pick out of BYU in last year’s draft, was waived by the Vikings last week after making the initial 53-man roster. Receiver Easop Winston Jr. was released to make room on the practice squad.
Hall was a two-year starter and two-sport player at BYU, including baseball. In football he threw for 5,754 yards, 51 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He also rushed 685 yards and six TDs.
