Geno Smith suffers injury in Sunday Night Football against Packers, questionable to return
Bad just got worse for the Seahawks.
Quarterback Geno Smith exited Seattle’s Sunday Night Football game against Green Bay with an injury midway through the third quarter. Smith was hit near his ankle by linebacker Edgerrin Cooper while throwing a harried screen pass incomplete. Smith was seen yelling at the official after the hit before leaving the game.
The Seahawks said he has a knee injury and questionable to return to the game.
On the sideline, Smith slammed his helmet in frustration before he left for the blue medical tent during the drive, which ended with Seattle field goal. That cut Green Bay’s lead to 20-6.
Seattle quarterback Sam Howell entered the game on the drive, getting just his second and third snaps of the season for the Seahawks.
Smith walked into the tunnel during the ensuing Green Bay drive. He returned about 10 minutes later, limping noticeably and not appearing to be in condition to play again Sunday night.
As Smith reappeared on the sideline, Howell got sacked twice on a three-out-drive to end the third quarter. The Seahawks trailed 23-6.
Smith completed 15 of 19 passes for 149 yards, with three sacks and a bad interception. He threw it off his back foot across the field late, into two Packers covering tight end Noah Fant in the second quarter. That ruined Seattle’s chance to cut into Green Bay’s 17-3 lead, perhaps down to 17-10.
It was Smith’s 13th interception against 14 touchdown passes in 14 games this season.
