‘What’s good, 12s?’: Elijah Arroyo makes Seahawks rookie draft class whole prior to camp

So much for that mini Seahawks drama.

Days after they did not report with all other rookies for training camp, Elijah Arroyo has joined fellow second-round draft choice Nick Emmanwori as signed and into Seattle’s camp.

“What’s good, 12s? Just signed my contract,” Arroyo said Saturday morning in a video the Seahawks posted online just after the tight end and 50th pick in this year’s NFL draft signed.

“Looking forward to seeing y’all at Lumen Field.

“Let’s go get some wins.”

Arroyo signed four days before the Seahawks’ first practice of training camp. His contract slotted by the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement is four years worth $8.8 million with $6,872,000 guaranteed.

Unlike Emmanwori, Arroyo did not get all of his $8.8 million guaranteed.

Tuesday, Arroyo and Emmanwori did not report to Seahawks training camp with nine other draft choices and all other rookies. The pair had yet to sign their contracts. Twenty-seven other rookie second-round picks across the NFL were also unsigned at the start of this week.

They were waiting to see if the Seahawks would give to Emmanwori, the 220-pound safety from South Carolina and 35th-overall pick, a fully guaranteed contact. That’s what Houston had given the 34th pick, wide receiver Jayden Higgins, and Cleveland then gave to the 33rd pick, linebacker Carson Schwesinger. Schwesinger was the first choice in round two.

Seattle general manager John Schneider followed suit on Thursday. He made Emmanwori the first second-round pick in Seahawks history to get a fully guaranteed deal.

That agreement preceded a rush of the league’s second-round picks signing.

The lowest-drafted rookie to get a fully guaranteed contract this year was at 40th-overall, quarterback Tyler Shough. The Saints agreed to their deal with Shough Saturday morning.

For an idea of what percentage of Arroyo’s contract is guaranteed, the San Francisco 49ers this week guaranteed 88% of its rookie deal with defensive tackle and second-round pick Alfred Collins. He was the 43rd selection.

From recent drafts, the 50th pick has had between 75 and 80% of his rookie contract guaranteed.

Arroyo, 6 feet 5 and 254 pounds from the University of Miami, was a slot receiver and at times outside wide alternating into new quarterback Sam Darnold’s first-team offense during the Seahawks’ offseason practices in May and June. Arroyo was in line as a traditional tight end quarterback Drew Lock and the second-team offense.
