Seahawks learn the day, time of Carolina game. What about week 18 at 49ers?
The Seahawks now know when they will be playing their next-to-last game of their push to the playoffs.
The NFL announced Wednesday Seattle will play at Carolina Sunday, Dec. 28 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time in Charlotte, North Carolina. That game time had been one of five options for week 17.
The league selected Houston at the Los Angeles Chargers for the late-afternoon game Saturday, Dec. 27, and Baltimore at Green Bay for the primetime game that Saturday night.
The decision by the league and its television partners means the Seahawks will have the full “mini-bye,” 10 days between their Thursday night home game against the Los Angeles Rams Dec. 18 and the Panthers game. It also means coach Mike Macdonald has the option of flying the team later Friday than usual for an East Coast game, for the day after Christmas.
Now what about the day and time for Seattle’s regular-season finale at San Francisco?
The NFL has two game windows for Saturday, Jan. 3, at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., and the rest of the league’s schedule for Sunday, Jan. 4. If it’s on Sunday, Seattle at San Francisco will either be at 1:25 p.m. or 5:20 p.m.
If the Seahawks beat the Colts this Sunday, and the Rams Dec. 18, and the Panthers and 49ers win their next three games, that week 18 game in Santa Clara, California, will be for the NFC West title and the number-one playoff seed in the NFC. That would likely put Seahawks at 49ers in the featured Sunday night, 5:20 p.m. slot on NBC as the final game of the league’s regular season.
The league can wait up until six day before, Monday Dec. 29, after the week 17 games are done, to announce the game days and times for week 18.
