Seahawks championship celebration parade draws thousands
1 p.m. update: The Seahawks are making their way down Fourth Avenue during their championship parade.
Here are some highlights:
- Silas High School athletic director Johnny Lee was seen working the event.
- Jim Zorn and Richard Sherman were on a truck together.
- Owner Jody Allen joined in for the parade.
- Mike Macdonald and his wife were on their own truck.
- General manager John Schneider was throwing candy at fans.
- A shirtless DeMarcus Lawrence caught the Vince Lombardi Trophy from one bus and walked the streets with it in hand, letting fans touch the trophy.
- AJ Barner continued to be an entire vibe with his cowboy hat, eventually losing the jacket and sporting a white tank top.
11 a.m. update: Multiple Seahawks took to the mic at Lumen Field to thank the fans and their teammates. The language was colorful and the drinks certainly seem to be flowing for the Super Bowl champs.
Warning: the following video does include some of that colorful language, but, honestly, what did you expect from Ernest Jones?
Some sights and sounds from other reporters down the parade line:
- Seahawks drum line welcome fans near the entrance of Lumen Field.
- We’ve seen horses and … the 12th pony?
- The Seahawks have Army trucks ready to go for their parade transportation.
- Ernest Jones’ T-shirt choice was definitely in line with his previous speeches.
10:30 a.m. update: The celebration at Lumen Field kicked off with coach Mike Macdonald and team entering the field with the Vince Lombardi Trophy in hand as well as … A LOT of red Solo cups.
Farther down the street, folks are lining up for the parade. Jon Manley is reporting a very heavy law enforcement presence.
Original story: Just a few days after the Seattle Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13 in Super Bowl LX, Seattle is ready to paint the town blue and green in a parade that’s expected to host up to a million people.
From post-game celebrations, to Jimmy Kimmel, to Disneyland and even, err … slingin’ chicken fingers at Raising Cane’s, the players and coaches have had a whirlwind few days. Now it’s time to party with the 12s first at Lumen Field, then during the parade on Fourth Avenue, ending near the Space Needle.
We’ll have coverage throughout the celebration with live updates from the stadium and parade.
