Puyallup cheesecake company now selling frozen bars at stores
Danelle Bentley doesn’t really like cream cheese.
So why’d she start a dessert company that makes cheesecake? Good question.
First, this: “I’m a really picky eater,” admits Bentley, who launched her dessert business, D’Lectable Desserts, at the Puyallup Farmers Market.
But then she discovered the eternally awesome relationship between chocolate and cream cheese. While cream cheese didn’t appeal to her in any way, the cheesecake sure did. After chocolate, she started experimenting with berries, key lime, cookies and cream and peanut butter.
Last summer, she grew her cheesecake line to chocolate-dipped frozen cheesecake bars. And now those are available in stores for the first time.
Find four-packs of the cheesecake bars at Harbor Greens in University Place and Gig Harbor, or at the Harbor General Store in Gig Harbor. The boxes contain two traditional; a gluten-free peanut butter and one double chocolate bar.
This is Bentley’s second time operating a dessert company. The former police officer opened her first bakery in DuPont in 2004, but closed it two years later and pursued another career. This time around, she decided to skip the store and sell only at farmers markets and wholesale. She’s working on getting her cheesecake bars into other stores, too.
