Tacoma named as a top city for first-time homebuyers

The New York-based mortgage loan and servicing firm The Money Source has added Tacoma to its list of the “Top 10 Cities for First-Time Homebuyers.”

The list, according to a company release on Tuesday, was compiled following a “review of over 70,000 loan applications as well as city-specific data.”

Criteria for inclusion on the list included median home prices, unemployment rates and quality of life.

Tacoma’s recognition centered on “a strong economy supported by an active port and companies like Boeing, Simpson and TrueBlue. The revitalized downtown boasts a full theater district and a number of museums.”

The listing notes a median home price of $197,000.

Tacoma, ninth on the list of 10 cities, shares the honor with Orlando, Florida; Des Moines, Iowa; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Riverside, California; Chandler, Arizona; Amarillo, Texas; Reno, Nevada; and Boise, Idaho.
