Brush fire breaks out along state Route 512, snarling traffic and threatening buildings
A brush fire broke out along state Route 512 in Pierce County on Friday, slowing traffic and threatening buildings, authorities said.
The blaze started about about 5:15 p.m. near the Portland Avenue interchange.
“The fire has spread approximately half a mile and reached a home in the area. Troopers and fire are on scene,” State Patrol trooper Guy Gill reported on Twitter.
The two left lanes of westbound Route 512 were blocked, the state Department of Transportation reported, and Central Pierce Fire & Rescue advised people to avoid the area.
