Man killed, 2 others injured in Lakewood vehicle fire

A man died early Monday in a burning van in Lakewood, fire crews from West Pierce Fire & Rescue said. Two other people in the van were injured and taken to the hospital.

Fire crews arrived just after 4 a.m. to the area of 92nd Street South and South Tacoma Way, according to a tweet from West Pierce Fire & Rescue. When crews arrived, the van was fully involved by the fire.

The incident was reported after a bystander saw the fire and broke one of the van’s windows. The bystander pulled two people to safety before it got too hot.

A man and woman were transported to the hospital in serious condition. The man who died in the fire has not been identified.

All the occupants were adults. West Pierce Fire & Rescue spokesperson Jenny Weeks said it’s not clear how the three people knew one another or if they were living in the van when the fire started.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Lakewood Police Department and a fire investigator responded to the scene.
