1 killed in RV fire near Port of Tacoma early Sunday morning

A fire destroyed an RV and killed the occupant inside, a Tacoma Fire official said Sunday.

About 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Tacoma fire crews were dispatched to 2199 Maxwell Way near the Port of Tacoma, Assistant Fire Chief Alex Wilsie said.

The fire was well underway when crews arrived and it was too late to rescue the person inside, he said. Nearby campers reportedly heard screaming, Wilsie added.

Details about the person who died were not immediately available.

The body was removed by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office, Wilsie said.
