Tacoma firefighters battle fire at apartment building

1:30 p.m. update: The fire is fully extinguished and there are no injuries to report. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Tacoma Fire said in a post.

Original story: Tacoma Fire crews are on the scene of an apartment fire that started on the ground floor and spread upstairs.

The dispatch for the fire came in around 12:30 p.m. Friday in the 4000 block of South Lawrence Street. The fire began on the first floor unit of a four-plex apartment building and spread to the second unit upstairs.

Most of the fire on the ground floor has been extinguished. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire on the second floor, said Tacoma Fire spokesman Joe Meinecke.

Meinecke said so far there are no occupants in the units.
