The body of a 20-year-old man suspected of drowning in an area lake was found Sunday morning, a spokesman for the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.

The man’s body was found about 9 a.m. in the swim area of Spanaway Lake, Sgt. Darren Moss said.

The man was reported missing by family on Friday, Aug. 2, after he did not return home overnight, according to Moss. Family members said he had gone swimming alone at the lake on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Deputies headed to the lake and found his vehicle as well as phone and clothing on the shore of the swim area.

A dive team also responded and searched the lake all day Friday, but could not locate the man, Moss said.

The man was found by someone in the swim area Sunday morning, Moss said.
