A vehicle fire in Tacoma on southbound Interstate 5 has caused traffic backups Thursday afternoon.

Three right lanes are blocked at milepost 131.8 near South 38th Street, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation Tacoma on X at 3:01 p.m.

Everyone inside the car was able to get out safely, and there are no reported injuries, Washington State Patrol trooper John Dattilo told The News Tribune.

Firefighters are on the scene and putting out the fire. Emergency crews are waiting to make sure the fire is completely out before the vehicle can be towed, he said.

Drivers should expect delays.

3:50 p.m. update: The roadway has cleared, according to WSDOT Tacoma on X.
